Hello hello!

Well, I meant this post to be about summer reading list. It was supposed to be one, but then I realised that it is August and the summer is almost gone. Sad news! When you are working through the summer you don’t realise it is summer till mid-July. When the people start taking their leaves, and you feel like there is no one taking 3pm coffee in the canteen then you realise “Shoot it is summer!” And then the other realisations come and there you have the anxiety… Let’s forget about that anxiety and move on to happier thoughts, such as books!

So here comes my so-called “Summer Reading List” Every year I go through the deep hole called the internet and check most of the reading lists that I can to get ideas on what I should be reading next. This whole process takes 1-2 days to be honest. Because once you start checking books on Goodreads or Amazon, the endless list of recommendations is just coming flooding in. I don’t complain, I love the magical algorithm that is recommending me books based on the ones I have read, or I have been researching about. It’s like that is a friend of yours but she/he knows about all the books! Well, I want that friend.

Let’s see what kind of book that I have come up with by now. My personal list a lot thicker than this of course, but here are my Top 5;

1)   City of Girls by Elizabeth Gilbert

I read this one already, it took me 2,5 weeks to finish due to some work that I had to finish at the time. This is a book about a rich girl getting kicked out of college and moving in with her aunt in Manhattan. It sounds cliché I know, but believe me, it is a lot more than that. You witness Vivian growing old throughout the book; you feel she is getting mature. Her narrative moves from a naive 19-year old to 60- year old grown matured New Yorker.

2)   We Should All Be Feminists by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie

I think this book doesn’t need an explanation. One of the most famous feminist authors Chimamanda gives you some explanation on what feminism means today talking based on her experiences. I haven’t read it but I read parts of it before heard a lot about it.

3)   Normal People by Sally Rooney

It is the story about two friends from the same city, ending up studying in the same university even though they were not “friends” in the high-school. This is the story of discovering who they are and the world that surrounds them. It is about young people, it is about love, it is about experiences.

4)   A Gentleman in Moscow by Amor Towles

I know it is from 2017, back when it was brand new I saw it a few times in the stores but I was not intrigued by the cover and I didn’t check it. Then I saw it in a few of the summer recommendation lists, started reading the reviews. And I was so eager to read it that I ordered it right away. I think this is the next one I will be reading. A book full of history, full of well-built characters and mystery, here I come…

5)   Buffering by Hannah Hart

I have been watching Hannah Hart for 3 years I would say. She is one of my favourite Youtubers and influencers to follow. She is so charming so positive, you just want to get everything you can get from her. And she is really important to a friend of mine. On her second book, she talks more about herself her life, her coming through, how she figured everything out and how she is doing that. I am eager to get to know her better.

I am eager to read all these before the end of September, I know I am being a bit ambitious on that. But let’s see, challenge accepted!

I hope you will find the recommendations helpful, joyful and enjoy reading.

Make the best of the summer, enjoy the happiness!
